Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you may want to know before choosing your wedding bands.

Wedding band, wedding ring, marriage ring – what is the difference?

Wedding band, wedding ring and marriage ring essentially describe the same piece of jewellery: the ring a couple wears as a sign of their marriage. Which term is used is largely a matter of personal habit. The engagement ring is different: traditionally it is worn before the wedding and, after the ceremony, can be worn alone or together with the wedding band.

Do both wedding bands have to look the same?

No. Wedding bands need not share the same design, width or colour of gold. Many couples choose rings that share individual features, such as the material or the surface. Equally, two deliberately different rings can form a harmonious pair. What matters is that both partners feel at ease with their own ring.

Which width is right for a wedding band?

The right width depends on the hand, on personal style and on whether the wedding band is worn alone or together with an engagement ring. Narrow rings usually appear finer and combine particularly easily, while wider bands stand more on their own. The most reliable way to find the right proportion is to try on several widths.

How can a wedding band and an engagement ring be combined?

Worn together, two rings appear calm when the colour of metal and the proportions are matched to one another. A narrow wedding band takes second place beside an engagement ring with a solitaire, while an equal width makes both rings read as a pair. A deliberate contrast is equally possible, for example a diamond-set wedding band next to a plain setting. The interplay shows most reliably when both rings are tried on together.

On which hand is the wedding band worn?

This varies by region and is, beyond that, a personal decision. In Germany, Austria, Poland, Norway and Spain the wedding band is traditionally worn on the right hand; across much of Western Europe, in North and South America and in Turkey on the left. Some couples move the engagement ring to the other hand after the ceremony, others wear both rings together. There is no right or wrong here – what matters is what feels right for the two of you.

Which is better for wedding bands: gold or platinum?

Both precious metals are suited to jewellery worn every day. 18k gold offers different colour worlds in yellow, white and rose gold. Platinum 950 has a naturally bright tone and a higher intrinsic weight, which makes it feel different on the finger than gold. The choice therefore depends not only on appearance but also on the feel you prefer.

How do I find the right ring size?

For a wedding band the ring size should be determined as precisely as possible, since the width and shape of the band can affect how it feels. On wider models in particular, the same ring size can feel different than on a narrow ring. We therefore recommend a professional sizing and are glad to advise you personally.

Can my wedding band be resized later?

With many wedding bands a later adjustment is possible. How far a ring can be altered depends on its design and above all on the stone setting. On eternity rings fully set with diamonds, for example, size changes are more limited than on plain bands. We therefore always assess the individual model.

Where are your wedding bands made?

Every wedding band is created in our atelier in Pforzheim. It is made after your order, in the chosen colour of metal, width and ring size – any engraving is carried out there as well. Because each ring is made individually, production takes more time than it would for stock pieces.
