Born in the Waves - Veynou x Michelle des Bouillons

Pro big-wave surfer and model Michelle des Bouillons for Veynou. As one of few women, she surfs the world's biggest waves in Nazaré, Portugal. Michelle is a born force of nature, deeply connected to the oceans, and the embodiment of a Veynou muse.

Together with Michelle, we present our new sustainable and unique Veynou sapphire collection “AVA: Born in the Waves”. AVA stands as a symbol for water and embodies Veynou's sustainable sapphires.

Our Veynou muse: Michelle des Bouillons

Michelle des Bouillons was born in Rio de Janeiro and comes from a family with surfing in their blood. From a young age, she built her own surfboards together with her father and spent her youth in the waves of Rio at the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain.

Her roots and connection to the oceans turned her into an active advocate for our seas early on.

Today, Michelle is one of few women who calls the world's biggest waves home each year, including Nazaré, where 30-meter waves are no rarity — a stage where she shows all her skill and courage.

An extreme sport that demands extraordinary trust in your own abilities and an exceptional mental strength.

The symbiosis of sustainability & performance

As the designer of her own surfboards, she carries on the tradition her father created. Just like us at Veynou, recycled materials matter to Michelle when she builds her surfboards — materials that also stand up to the demands of the sea. The perfect symbiosis of sustainability and performance.

Michelle embodies the values we live at Veynou. She stands as a symbol for the courage it takes to achieve the seemingly impossible, the strength it takes to change things, and for being in tune with nature. She is a unique role model. She is a Veynou muse.

Nazaré – the biggest waves

Nazaré is the meeting point for the world's best big-wave surfers, like Michelle. The Portuguese town sits right on the Atlantic. On the rocky outcrop of the São Miguel Arcanjo fortress, people from all over the world come together to take in the spectacular views and watch waves up to 30 meters tall.
